BlackRock goes overweight Treasuries for the first time in ~6 years, says markets overprice Fed tightening
CNBC: BlackRock (over $15.3 trillion AUM) upgraded US Treasuries to overweight and cut US equities to neutral. The firm called expectations for another 160 bps of Fed hikes over the next 12 months 'overdone' and favors the short end. The 10-year yield is up about 110 bps year-to-date to around 5.25%, largely on high energy prices from the Middle East conflict.
Gold impact: If big money rotates back into bonds and Fed-tightening bets cool, yields may be near a peak → lower opportunity cost for gold, supportive over the medium to long term. Near term it's just a view and doesn't change the Fed path; this week's CPI still decides.

IMF warns sovereign yields could spike in a 'disorderly' way on public debt, inflation and AI borrowing
CNBC: the IMF's Global Financial Stability Report, released Oct 13 in Bangkok, warned record debt leaves bond markets 'vulnerable to fiscal and inflation shocks'; hedge funds' share of Treasury holdings rose to about 9% (2025) from 4% (2022), raising the risk of a 'disorderly unwind'. AI hyperscalers now account for 10% of global investment-grade bond issuance (from under 1% in 2024), competing with governments for capital.
Gold impact: Near term: a yield spike pressures gold (higher opportunity cost, stronger dollar) and can trigger selling of assets to raise cash. Bigger picture: public-debt risk and eroding trust in government bonds are core reasons central banks and investors hold gold as a safe asset.
