Gold Asian Session Plan: 4,177 High Stalls at 4H Mid, Red 45m Close – Sell Retraces Into 4,165–4,175
From the New York afternoon into the Asian open: After the hot PPI print, gold flushed to 4,138, popped to 4,167, failed into the U.S. open and was back near 4,145 by 10:17 AM ET. Overnight, softer yields and a softer dollar powered a haven bid straight through prior resistance: Asian session low 4,145.50 at 1:00 PM ET → 4,159 at 3:00 PM ET → Asian high 4,176.90 at 4:00 PM ET (CNBC XAU= day high 4,176.94). From there it has ground lower: 6:00 PM ET 4,169 · 7:00 PM ET 4,163 · 7:50 PM ET 4,157.30 (gold-api.com ~4,158–4,159). December COMEX gold runs about $21.60 over spot.
Why the Asian high stalled: The 4,177 spike landed right on the 4H BB90 mid/MA89 cluster (4,167 / 4,165) and the 78.6% Fib (4,171) of the 4,197→4,074 down-leg – higher-timeframe supply. The 4H and 3H are still in the lower half of their BB90 (mids 4,167 / 4,158), so the overnight rally was a pullback, not a trend flip. DXY holds near 102.04, the 10-year yield is around 5.08–5.09% (well off its post-CPI peak), Brent ~$105.70 and S&P futures ~7,777 – risk appetite stays cautious with the AI/data-center debt shakeout (CoreWeave CDS) still in play.
The Asian-session game plan: The H79 sell signal is already in from the high: price tagged the 4H mid/MA89 sell cluster and the 45m (5:45 / 6:30 / 7:15 PM ET) plus 1H (6:00 / 7:00 PM ET) candles closed red. If you're not in, sell a retrace into 4,165–4,175 (4H BB90 mid 4,167 · 4H MA89 4,165 · Fib 78.6% 4,171 · Asian high cluster 4,172–4,177) only on a red 45m or 1H close – never on a 15m/30m red close alone. Stop at 4,186 (above the 4,177 Asian high and R1 near 4,184). TP1 4,149 (45m mid/MA89), TP2 4,136 (50% Fib of the big down-leg · near the daily pivot at 4,131). A 1H close above 4,186 cancels the short. Buy only at 4,090–4,105 (lower BB90 on the 45m/4H/2H) on a 45m rejection wick with a bullish 45m MACD cross. Fed Chair Warsh speaks at 11:30 PM ET (high impact) – trim size ahead of it.
Technicals: The 4H (BB90 mid 4,167) and 3H (4,158) sit in the lower half – primary trend down; the 45m/1H/2H briefly tagged the upper half on the overnight pop and are rotating back toward their mids. The 5m/15m/30m up-channel overnight was only a pullback and stalled at the 4H mid/MA89 cluster. MACD histogram: 5m −0.8 · 15m −1.8 · 30m −1.1 · 45m −0.4 (narrowing); 1H still +0.6. RSI(14) is oversold on the 5m (27) and mid-50s on the larger frames. Daily pivots from Oct 15 (H 4,167.10 · L 4,078.60 · C 4,147.60): P 4,131 · R1 4,184 · R2 4,220 · S1 4,095. Fib of the 4,197→4,074 drop: 50% 4,136 · 61.8% 4,150 · 78.6% 4,171 – the 4,177 Asian high sits on the 78.6%.

Arrows: vs. prior close
Risk appetite stays cautious: the AI/data-center debt shakeout (CoreWeave CDS, Nvidia/AMD) keeps S&P futures near 7,777 (−0.2%). The 10-year yield around 5.08–5.09% and the DXY near 102.04 – both off their post-CPI highs – still offer a relative tailwind for gold, but not enough to clear the 4H resistance cluster. Brent holds near $105.70. The Asian-session focus is Fed Chair Warsh at 11:30 PM ET (high impact) – a hawkish tone can reverse the bid quickly.
