Gold Breaks Above the 4,197 Down-Trendline – Buy Only on a 1H/4H Close Over 4,186, Sell a Failure at 4,177–4,186
Thursday closed green: Spot gold settled Oct 15 at 4,170.25 (CNBC XAU=), up ~1.6% from 4,104.84, with a 4,176.9 high and 4,099.9 low. The 10-year yield has slipped to about 5.08% after PPI, the DXY is near 101.99 and the AI-stock rout is keeping a haven bid alive.
The trendline break: The down-trendline from the 4,197.3 Oct 13 high through 4,167.1 (Oct 15) now runs near 4,160. The 10 PM ET 1H bar closed at 4,175.8 – above the line, the 1H BB90 mid (4,154) and MA89 (4,154); the 45m (mid 4,149) and 4H (4,165) are in their upper halves too. But the 4,176.9/4,178.3 double top and R1 at 4,184 are intact – the structure change isn't confirmed yet.
Two scenarios: Breakout: a 1H or 4H close above 4,186 → buy the 4,186–4,191 retest, stop 4,176, TP1 4,197 (Oct 13 high), TP2 4,220. Failure: sell 4,177–4,186 on a red 45m or 1H close, or a 1H candle that pierces its BB90 mid and closes back below; stop 4,196, TP1 4,160, TP2 4,149. No 15m/30m triggers.
Warsh at 11:30 PM ET: Fed Chair Warsh's IMF fireside chat runs 11:30 PM–midnight ET – no remarks were out at publish. Wait for the post-speech 1H close before acting.

🌍 Market Picture
As of 11:40 PM ET, Oct 15
Arrows: vs. prior close
The 10-year yield has slipped to about 5.08% after PPI and the DXY is down near 101.99, back under 102 and off its 18-month high – the main tailwind for gold (CNBC). The AI-stock selloff keeps a haven bid in play, while U.S.–Iran tension around Hormuz holds Brent near $105.40. The swing factor now is Fed Chair Warsh's IMF fireside chat at 11:30 PM ET – a hawkish tone could knock gold back fast.

🧭 Plan & scenarios
- Data/news: 10-year ~5.08%, DXY ~101.99 (under 102) – supportive; Warsh's IMF fireside chat runs 11:30 PM–midnight ET, no remarks yet at publish.
- Price path: Oct 15 settle 4,170.25 (high 4,176.9 · low 4,099.9) → 9:37 PM ET low 4,147.8 → 10:57 PM ET 4,178.3 → 11:27 PM ET ~4,170.
- Why: the 10 PM ET 1H bar closed at 4,175.8, above the down-trendline (~4,160); the 1H holds above its BB90 mid 4,154 and MA89 4,154; the 4H is above its 4,165 mid.
- Levels: breakout = 1H/4H close >4,186 → buy 4,186–4,191, SL 4,176, TP1 4,197 · TP2 4,220. Failure → sell 4,177–4,186, SL 4,196, TP1 4,160 · TP2 4,149.
- Risk: a hawkish Warsh can flip this fast; a 1H close back under 4,154 (BB mid) kills the breakout.
